Hyvät Suomen ja Liettuan ystävät,
Mieli Suomijos ir Lietuvos bičiuliai,
Dear Friends of Finland and Lithuania,
This year we commemorated the restoration of the diplomatic relations between Finland and Lithuania 30 years ago on 29th of August. In 1921 on 14th of October, Finland recognized the independence of Lithuania and this autumn will also mark one hundred years of establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. During the past 30 years, there have been numerous visits of our Presidents, Prime Ministers, Foreign Ministers and other Ministers, officials, business representatives, tourists and friends. Parliamentarians, Honorary consuls, Chambers of Commerce, friendship groups and twin cities have done an extremely valuable contribution in tightening and deepening the relations between our countries. We know each other better, but we still have a lot of work to do.
After starting as Ambassador of Finland to Lithuania at the beginning of September 2020, the autumn was full of enthusiasm and positive buzz. However, towards the end of October, we already saw the fast increasing numbers of Covid19 cases and soon we experienced a strict lockdown to get the numbers down. Although the pandemia affected our daily lives, it was not able to stop us working - on the contrary! We achieved a real digital leap with all the virtual ways of working. I would like to thank you all – we have achieved a lot although the circumstances have not been ideal.
Full speed ahead and let the friendly relations between Finland and Lithuania continue to flourish and strengthen! Tegul draugiški santykiai tarp Suomijos ir Lietuvos toliau klesti ir stiprėja!
