Aukusti Robert Niemi – professor at the University of Helsinki, Finnish and Lithuanian folklorist, founder of the Finnish - Lithuanian Society (in 1931). He wrote about Lithuanian history and culture, collected and analysed the Lithuanian folklore, helped to translate the epic Kalevala to the Lithuanian language. At the request of the Lithuanian government in 1919 prepared the project of the Lithuanian education reform. In 1923 Prof. Niemi was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of the University of Lithuania.
